I’m blogging my campaign progress on this site to begin a dialogue with my fellow Kirkatoids during this city council race. As I give my report on meetings I have attended and discussions I have had, I hope you will gain a better sense of who I am, how I think, and what I stand for so you can vote with confidence in April.
I’m also anxious to hear your opinions. Each post has a “comments” section where you can leave comments and your own ideas. Open, public dialogue is the key to a productive and fair democratic society. Here, everyone is welcome. I also hope that, as I attend meetings and write about current issues themselves, we will learn something new together and perhaps get more involved in the great things that are happening in Kirksville.
Finally, this site is an experiment in open government. Kirksville doesn’t have a webpage like this right now, but I think it should. I’m the kind of guy who prefers face-to-face talk instead of phone calls and emails, but sometimes that’s not always possible or comfortable for some people. If it goes well, I would like to improve and expand this page after I am elected to provide an easy conduit for citizens to communicate with their city government. Good ideas deserve to be heard and debated, no matter where they come from.
