Kern Pettit receives award

On May 22, as part of Public Works Week, City Engineer John Buckwalter presented the annual Granvil Prise Stevens Award to Kern Pettit for outstanding service in public works.

Kern has been with the department since March 27, 1978.  He is a street maintenance worker, and is the employee primarily responsible for the pot hole patcher.

The “Prise” Stevens award is given in memory of Granvil Prise Stevens, an employee of the Kirksville Water and Sewer Department from 1947 until his death in 1973.  The award is made annually to the employee who exemplifies the high degree of loyalty and dedication to the City of Kirksville and their job that characterized Mr. Stevens’ service.

As John explained, this is like the Oscars for the Public Works department. Martha and I joined John, Kern and his fellow employees for cake and ice cream in celebration.

Congratulations, Kern!
