This weekend, Bich and I played host to BJ Hill, a 32 year-old teacher who has been walking from California to Boston since March. I found a place for him to stay from a generous citizen who offered up one of his apartments for the weekend.
We took him out to Il Spazio on Saturday night. While we were waiting for the food, we went outside and did a little video podcast about our town for the world to see. It’s up on his website right now: www.walkamerica2008.com. You’ll see he did trip me up on a bit of Kirksville history, sorry to say.
It’s been fun having him here, though. Lots of interesting stories. He hung out all day Saturday at Washington Street Java Co., chatting with a lot of people and collecting messages for the next U.S. President, which he keeps in a bible-like notebook that is almost full already. He’s hoping to finish out his journey before the election in November, though he’s going to have to get a bike or something to speed up this last leg a bit.
Anyway, you can keep up with his progress through the above website, which he updates whenever he gets the chance. It was a pleasure to have BJ in town for a while, and we wish him safe travels for the rest of his journey!
